Madison, WI, January 8, 2007 - NameProtect today released the Q3-2006 edition of its Trademark Insider® report. A quarterly publication on the trademark industry, the report provides the general business and legal community with insight into overall trademark filing activity, a ranking of leading trademark law firms and companies, and an analysis of overall industry trends. The Q3-2007 report highlights continued growth and strength within the trademark industry with a record-breaking quarter. At first blush, the Q3-3006 filing number of 69,458 – the lowest quarterly total of the year thus far – would lead one wonder if the industry’s four year growth trend was starting to taper off. But that thought is quickly dismissed by the realization that Q3-2006 is the highest third quarter filing volume recorded by NameProtect since the company began tracking filing numbers in 1997, breaking the previous record of 68,549 set in Q3-1999. Not to be overshadowed by quarterly results, the year-to-date filing number remains impressive as well. With a total of 211,672 applications filed in the first three quarters of 2006 – the highest since 2000 and only the second year since 1997 with filings topping 200,000 – the year is well on track to book more than a quarter million applications for the second year in a row. As always, this edition of the Trademark Insider provides law firm, company and individual attorney rankings. Based on the number of applications filed, the report ranks Greenberg Traurig, National IP Rights Center, Fitch Even Taben & Flannery, DLA Piper Rudnick and Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu as the top five law firms of Q3-2006. This edition of the Trademark Insider also includes the second installment of the report’s new Q&A feature. This installment of the Q&A – which poses industry-related questions to top trademark attorneys – provides commentary on the Trademark Dilution Act of 2006 from Ted Davis of Kilpatrick Stockton, Mark Steiner of Townsend and Townsend and Crew, Peter Sloane of Ostrolenk, Faber, Gerb & Soffen and Stephen Baird of Winthrop & Weinstine.
